SAINTS are reportedly one of several clubs paying close attention to Manchester United defender Brandon Williams, according to the Athletic.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side had reportedly made an enquiry as to the availability of the 20-year-old in the summer.

And the Athletic claims Williams was open to a loan move to the south coast back then – only for the deal to be blocked by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Williams has featured in just two senior games for United this season, playing in Carabao Cup contests against Brighton and Luton.

Speaking about the England under-21 defender last week, Solskjaer said: “I am starting to see the Brandon I saw last season, which I have to see more.

“If he keeps on doing what he did last season he’ll be fine.”

Williams, a product of United’s academy, has played 38 times for the Red Devils at senior level – including 17 games in the top flight.

He made his England under-21 debut in a 3-3 draw against Andorra last month.

The Athletic claims Saints boss Hasenhuttl still wants to bolster his defensive options with another full-back.
