HAMPSHIRE are set to sign India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane as a replacement for Aiden Markram.

With Markram in South Africa’s World Cup squad, Hampshire have turned their attentions to the Rahane, who has scored 3,488 Test runs at 40.53.

According to cricinfo.com, the 30 year-old is awaiting clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play for Hampshire.

He has also scored 3,000-plus limited-overs runs for India from his 90 ODI and 20 T20I caps, averaging 35.26 and 20.83 respectively, but has been left out of his country's World Cup squad.

Rahane is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals at the Indian Premier League and scored his second T20 century, an unbeaten 105 in a six-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals, on Monday.
