ALRESFORD Town boss Richard Luffman had a rare run-out for the team last night – and scored in a convincing Southampton Senior Cup win over Alderbury.
As expected, the Magpies proved too strong for their Southampton Saturday League Premier Division visitors, winning through 6-0 to take their place in the quarter-finals.
Chris Mason helped himself to a double – including one from the penalty spot – and Louis Russell, Tom Ashton and an own goal increased the tally.
But the biggest cheer of the night was reserved for manager Luffman whose 25-yard screamer has been acclaimed by the Sydenhams Wessex Premier club as “a goal-of-the-season” contender.
Saluting their visitors, Alresford tweeted: “A massive thanks to @ FcAlderbury for tonight’s game.
“What a wonderful club, who played the game in terrific spirit for the full 90 mins.
“We wish you well for the remainder of the season.
“Certainly didn’t give up and played the game the right way all evening.”
Elsewhere, Sydenhams One underdogs Hythe & Dibden beat Premier Division Brockenhurst 3-2 in the Southampton Senior Cup at the Meadens Skoda Arena.
