A MOTORWAY was closed for more than seven hours after a police car was involved in a crash with an HGV.

The collision happened at 9.17pm on the westbound carriageway of the M27 near Eastleigh, between junctions five and four.

Highways England initially said traffic was being held for the incident, and vehicles were then turned back to clear the road.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "The passenger of the police vehicle sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, but these are not thought to be serious.

"No one else was reported to be injured.

"The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services worked at the scene, recovery was arranged for the vehicles involved, and motorists were safely released from the motorway.

"Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing."

Anyone with information on the incident can contact police on 101.
