A police incident which led to a house being cordoned off has been described as ‘disturbing’ by concerned Fair Oak residents.

Officers taped off the terraced house in Ridgeway Close on Monday evening and have remained at the scene since.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a police car remained stationed outside the back of the property with an officer on guard.

The reason for their presence is not yet known, but Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been contacted for information.

Chris Andrews, a resident of the area, said: “I have no idea what happened.

"The cordon has been there since about half four (yesterday). There were about five or six different cars and they were there all night. Forensics have come today.

"It is a bit disturbing. It will be nice when we can actually be told what has happened."

Daily Echo:

An ambulance was also seen at the scene by another resident, who did not wish to be named.

Yesterday evening, they said: “The police won’t tell us anything.

"I was working at home and I suddenly saw the ambulance lights. This was about half two, and police have been here ever since.

"We can only guess what we think has happened.

"We don’t really get this around here. It is normally quite quiet.”

Daily Echo: Another resident added on Tuesday: "I noticed two police cars parked on Winchester Road last night and didn't think too much about it.

"But apparently there were lots of police there and the house was taped off."

They saw the vehicles at around 6.30pm on Monday.

The cordon covers the entrance to the property and the neighbouring fence.

Forensic teams were also seen coming in and out of the building on Tuesday, with vans with a biohazard sign on them parked up near to the house.

It is not known how long the cordon will remain in place.
