A weather warning has been issued with gusts expected to reach 60mph on exposed coastlines near Southampton on Tuesday.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind which covers coastal areas including Hamble and Gosport, as well as Hythe, Beaulieu and Lymington.
Whilst the warning area, which will come into force from 1am until midday on Tuesday, doesn’t cover Southampton city centre, it warns that areas just inland from the coastal strip could experience gusts of 40-50mph.
The warning has been issued with a spell of strong onshore winds set to affect the south coast on Tuesday morning.
“Strong winds are likely to bring hazardous coastal conditions and could cause some inland disruption,” the Met Office said.
Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will likely be affected by spray and/or large waves, whilst there could be disruption to transport.
Power cuts are also possible.
Later on Tuesday morning, the wind will ease and change direction.
The warning area covers the English Channel coast from Weymouth and Portland in Dorset to Margate in Kent.
