A secondary school has been rated "Good" by Ofsted after a recent inspection in February.

Crestwood Community School on Shakespeare Road, Eastleigh was praised for its curriculum and dedication to its pupils by the school regulator.

A report found that it has a "strong" stance on improving attendance and pupils like and trust their teachers.

The school was last inspected in 2018 when it also received a "Good" rating, though Ofsted has noted that the efforts of staff "are now clearly paying off".

The report states that pupils "know their teachers want the best for them.

"Many pupils, staff and parents describe the school as a ‘big family’.

“Teaching and support staff, including those in the early stages of their careers, are proud to work at the school.

“They particularly value leaders’ careful consideration of their workload and well-being so that they can focus their efforts fully on pupils’ education.”

Ofsted also highlighted the wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs that Crestwood offer to pupils.

The report added: “Although published examination results in 2023 were not strong overall, there were improvements in a number of subjects.

“The school has carefully considered the knowledge that pupils should learn and the order in which it is taught.”

Also credited within the report is the school’s focus on attendance after many pupils missed a significant amount of learning time during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The inspector wrote: “Overall attendance is improving. Pupils who struggle to come to school are supported effectively to attend more regularly.”

Crestwood Community School’s Headteacher, Krista Dawkins, said: "We are absolutely delighted that we have maintained our good grading.

“This is the fifth Ofsted under my leadership and the second since we merged and became a split-site campus.

“The report truly reflects how the school is on a day-to-day basis. Our students and staff are incredible and I am so happy that both were commended in the report.

“This has been a real Crestwood family effort; the journey has been a real success story for Eastleigh young people."
