A huge blaze that destroyed multiple vehicles and damaged a resident’s home in a quiet Eastleigh street has left residents in shock.

Drum Road resident Jennett Unwin had her car destroyed and her home damaged in an arson that meant her week of plans and activities with friends was ruined.

The fire destroyed two residents' cars and a van – and CCTV captured by Jennett’s Ring doorbell shows two men running from the scene after the blaze started.

The Eastleigh mum said: “When I think about those who started the fire, I get very angry. If it hadn’t been for the quick actions of the fire department - I could have died.

“I hope the police catch them.

“Around 5am, I tried looking out the window, but all I could see was flames and smoke and water. It was absolutely terrifying, not knowing what was going on.

“The fire service were absolutely fantastic. We stayed inside until the fire had cleared - this is the first day of my week's annual leave.”

Jennett had plans with friends and was due to attend a wedding at the end of the week – all of which is now uncertain without her car.

Kamal Bahadur Purja, who has lived in Drum Road since 2006, said: “Gosh, the scene is absolutely horrifying.

"Ever since I’ve lived here, we’ve never had an incident quite as horrific as this.

"This is a nice family area and you don’t expect this sort of thing to be going on."
