Southampton-based Cindy Brooks, a sociologist, artist, and pianist, has collaborated with care home staff to produce an artistic video revolving around nature, to boost wellbeing.

Brooks, a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, called the project a 'time-out' video, acknowledging the tireless efforts of care home workers. She coordinated with Turner Sims Southampton, John Hansard Gallery, and the university’s Health and Wellbeing Community Hub to create the video.

The three-minute film titled 'From the City to the Sea', showcases Brooks' vibrant paintings and includes original piano compositions by the artist herself.

Cindy said: “I wanted to co-create something specifically with and for care home staff to recognise their contribution and support wellbeing, as well as provide a resource for residents and family members.

“I hope this resource will help to recognise the value of art and music to wellbeing. Art and music aren’t specific to certain individuals – they are important to everyone’s wellbeing, and they are important to inclusivity and bringing us together.”

Online workshops with staff from four UK care homes were conducted to choose the imagery and music based on their experience of nature, music, and art.

It is the third such wellness resource created by Brooks, following 'A Walk in the Park', released in December 2022. She is now looking for public feedback on her creation through a survey which you can fill out by visiting: https://southampton.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0U7ze4ynaEoHO5M
