Regarding the house fire that occurred at our property on Thursday, February 1, I am writing to express my sincere thanks to everyone involved.

My husband and I are both in our 80s, and have been overwhelmed by the kindness shown to us, both on the day and since.

A huge thank you to the neighbours who alerted the fire brigade, and the team of builders who helped us out of the house, you are literally lifesavers.

To all our wonderful neighbours who helped in so many ways, we are so grateful for all you did, and for your continuing support.

Our gratitude obviously goes to all the fire crews who attended so promptly, and also the team from the Red Cross, the head and staff of Cupernham School, and the complete strangers who stopped to give comfort and offer assistance.

Of these passers-by, I would like to give a special mention to Kate, a pupil at Romsey School, who was returning from a medical appointment and took the time to stop to see if she could help, and stayed with me for a little while.

She was lovely and, if I may say, the school should be extremely proud of their pupil’s behaviour.

Many thanks once again.
