Visitors can return to Southampton’s main hospital after restrictions have been lifted.

University Hospital Southampton (UHS) has resumed normal visiting arrangements following a previous rise in infection rates.

These have come into force with immediate effect, except in areas that have specific infection prevention measures in place.

Mask wearing in adult clinical areas will be retained and will remain under review.

A spokesperson from UHS said: “We have seen a reduction in the number of wards closed due to infection.

“Currently, less than half of the areas are affected compared to two weeks ago.

“We have seen a significant reduction in norovirus and areas being closed as a result.

"However, we are continuing to see persistent numbers of people with respiratory illnesses, and with the national increase in cases of flu, we are retaining the wearing of masks in adult clinical areas.

“This will remain under review.

“Thank you again for your continued support.”

All inpatients can have a maximum of two visitors at a time by the bedside, between the hours of 2pm and 8pm.
