A Daily Echo reader says he "feels sorry" for traders in Dibden Purlieu who recently spoke out against the impact of roadworks on Christmas sales.

Business owners in the New Forest village say customers are being put off visiting their stores due to the "chaos" caused by four-way traffic lights outside the Esso garage.

After the article was published, a reader wrote a letter to the Daily Echo to share his experience.

With reference to your article on the roadworks in Dibden Purlieu on Friday 8, page 7.

A couple of weeks ago I wanted to go to the Post Office, as I drove from Beaulieu, I thought what the heck is going on!

I could see the workmen, amazingly, but the temporary traffic lights are a nightmare!

I was held up for at least 20mins! Far longer than normal ones.

I do feel really sorry for all the traders and agree with what they’ve said in the article, it could have waited, as I’m sad to say, I for one haven’t been back since as it is just so chaotic!

I really hope they will all be compensated for the loss of customers.

I have missed going to have a look around at the lovely Christmas things.
