A WOMAN who has eaten nothing but raw fruit for the last three years has said: "I have never been fitter."

Fruitarian Pam Johal's fruit of choice is the mango - and she has eaten 1,000 this year alone.

Pam, 44, of Shirley in Southampton, told the Daily Echo she is currently eating oranges, kiwis, pomegranates, and blueberries. She eats whatever fruit is in season.

The full-time mother-of-two - who ate 13 boxes of oranges in November - said she has "never felt better" after making changes in her diet.

Pam, a former NHS administrator, made the change to fruit in a bid to tackle arthritis, and she wants more people to switch to the lifestyle.

Pam has also set up a Facebook group named RawPower to promote, educate and connect people with the fruitarian lifestyle.

She said: "I began this diet three years ago now.

"I was never really a big dairy or meat eater so the transition wasn't too bad. I don't take supplements I just have the power of raw fruit fueling me.

"I don't believe in breakfast, lunch and dinner, so I eat whenever.

"I believe humans are meant to have a fruit-based diet. You wouldn't put the wrong fuel in a car.

"I have so much energy when I am in the shops listening to music I just feel like dancing off all my energy.

"My friends look at me like 'how do I do it?' and it's the fruit. I made these changes for my health and I have never been fitter.

"When I look at people who go to the doctor and don't feel good about themselves I think how can you not make these changes?

"My kids, five-year-old Henry and four-year-old Georgie, and my husband are not fruitarians but have as much fruit as possible.

"I was brought up eating meat and carbs but fruit has always been a favourite of mine.

"On a day I will graze on grapes or whatever fruit is in season - 90 per cent of what I eat is raw.

"I have about four to five glasses of juice a day and I have no clue how much fruit but it is a lot."

Pam said that she wanted to make changes in her diet to combat her health problems.

She said: "I had really bad arthritis for a very long time and it began when I was in my forties.

"It's been in my family a long time and I have relatives that have so many issues with moving around because of it.

"It got to the point when I couldn't hold things properly and couldn't put my clothes on easily in the morning.

"I wanted a solution to the problem rather than medication to manage it.

"I had always been into the idea of the fruitarian diet but when I finally committed I saw the difference it made in me.

"I have so much more energy and I am stronger. It has helped my arthritis and now when I eat my fruit my kids say mommy is powering up."
