A MAN attacked three officers after barricading himself in his room, say police.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting three police officers during an incident in Chapel Road, West End.

Police were called out at around 12pm on Monday to assist South Central Ambulance Service.

According to a spokesperson for the county force, a man had barricaded himself in his room and was "refusing to come out".

Police negotiators were called to the scene and three officers were hurt.

One was later rushed to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing a large police presence in the area on Monday afternoon.

Hedge End police officers posting on social media have since described the incident as a mental health episode.
