A HAMPSHIRE football club is seeking consent to enlarge its clubhouse in the wake of the pandemic.

AFC Totton, based at the Snows Stadium in Salisbury Road, Calmore, has submitted plans to build two single-storey extensions.

The site is currently being used as a Covid vaccination centre.

In a letter to New Forest District Council the club says: "The application seeks to marginally extend the existing clubhouse to allow for a larger reception area and kitchen.

"Planning (permission) was granted for the original clubhouse in 2007.

"The reception area is deemed insufficient to provide suitably covered waiting space for visitors within the clubhouse and this has been exacerbated following implementation of Covid-19 related policies.

"The proposals will also facilitate additional area for club merchandise to be displayed.

"The kitchen is required to be enlarged to provide services to spectators who will remain outside the clubhouse and will be served via a relocated serving hatch.

"The proposal is not anticipated to require any additional parking or involve the loss of extent spaces."

Last year another sports club in the town, Tottonians RFC, was given permission for a single-storey extension to its clubhouse, a balcony extension and a tractor store.

A report to councillors said the proposed development aimed to respect the recreational character of the site at Water Lane.

It added: "The scale of the development, together with the selection of external materials, would help it blend in with the surrounding context.

"Moreover, the location of the site, away from public vantage points, would reduce the visual impact of the development on the character and appearance of the area."

The report said the gap between the site and the nearest homes meant the scheme would not have an overbearing impact or result in noise, overlooking or light pollution.
