WINCHESTER Sport and Leisure Park will be swinging its doors open at the end of the month.

The new facility in Bar End has been under construction since March 2019 but is finally ready to use.

On May 29, members of the public will be welcomed welcomed by operator Everyone Active from 10am.

Shortly after they will be able to book classes and establish a membership deal.

Lucille Thompson, leader of Winchester City Council, said: "We are so excited to be just days away from opening this fantastic new facility to residents and visitors. We have been working closely with Everyone Active to ensure the centre offers the very best facilities, equipment, access and opportunities for individuals and groups across the district and look forward to them settling into their new Sport & Leisure Park from Saturday 29 May.

“The opening marks a major milestone for Winchester City Council in providing top class sport and leisure facilities within the district and our thanks goes to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in making it happen.”

The centre, built by Willmott Dixon, boasts extensive pool facilities including an eight-lane 50m main pool, teaching pool and splash pad, as well as The Pinder Hydrotherapy Centre providing a range of aquatic physiotherapy services.

The 200 station gym, two large fitness studios, sports hall activities and Top Rock climbing will be ready for pre-booked sessions whilst the Sparx Beauty Rooms and Crussh Café offer relaxing spaces to unwind and refresh after an exercise session.

In addition to using the sport and leisure facilities, there will be fun for all the family on the grand opening day, with free activities including magic shows and balloon modelling for children, to energising gym challenges for the fitness fanatics.

Alison Norman, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming local residents to the amazing new centre which has something on offer for everyone. Visitors will be able to view our brand new facilities, including a 50m swimming pool, multi-use sports hall, 200 station fitness suite and spinning studio, four squash courts, fun climbing and a range of activities for children.

“It’s going to be an exciting day and those planning to attend will need to book activities in advance via the Everyone Active website or the Everyone Active app.”

Visitors can access the Sport & Leisure Park on foot or bike via the new pedestrian and cycle links from Domum Road and King George V Playing Fields.

Secure covered cycle parking is located at the front of the centre and a new bus stop is located on Barfield Road close by.
