WHILST I am supportive of progressive thinking in respect of proposed improvements to Romsey, I suspect that those who endorse the closure of The Hundred do not live in the town centre.

Living in Latimer Street I can tell you that the traffic can be unbearable at times. We live in old houses fronting onto narrow pavements and streets in a town centre that was designed for horses and carts.

Traffic from the north should ideally pass around the perimeter of the town - Fishlake Meadows and Cupernham Lane or failing that, Malmesbury Road and Alma Road where the roads are wider and houses set further back.

If it must come down Greatbridge Road and Cherville Street, at least let it stop turning left into Portersbridge Street.

Far too much traffic circumvents these routes by careering down Duttons Road, Station Road and Latimer Street, turning left at The Phoenix. It can be unbearable at certain times of the day.

Please re-open The Hundred and at least give some of us living in the town centre a break. Quality of life is important at the best of times, let alone at the moment when we are all doing our best to get by.
