PROPOSALS to build an orangery behind a house in the New Forest National Park have been given the go-ahead.

The National Park Authority (NPA) has approved an application relating to Wicksmoor Farmhouse at Penn Common Road, Bramshaw.

The proposal had been opposed by the tenants of adjoining stables.

They objected to the proposed design of the extension and the use of materials that were “not in sympathy with the main building”.

They added: “We also consider the proposed orangery to be out of character. It could set a precedent for similar or possibly larger designs in more prominent positions, negating all the hard work done to keep the New Forest’s character intact.

“We also note that the rear hedge may be removed or reduced which could impact on wildlife and our privacy.”
