BIN collections dates across Hampshire will be different between Christmas Day and New Year.

Householders in the county are being urged to take note of alternative collection dates to ensure rubbish and recycling is collected over the festive period.

Here's what you need to know:

Southampton

For general waste, recycling and glass normal collections on December 21, 22, 23 and 24 will remain the same.

There will be no collections on December 25 or January 1.

Collections from December 28 will generally be one day later.

The following dates are normal collection day, followed by revised collection day:

December 25 - moves to December 28

December 28 - moves to December 29

December 29 - moves to December 30

December 30 - moves to December 31

December 31 - moves to January 2

January 1 - moves to January 4

January 4 - moves to January 5

January 5 - moves to January 6

January 6 - moves to January 7

January 7 - moves to January 8

January 8 - moves to January 9.

Usual collection days will resume on January 11.

The last garden waste collection will be on December 18 and will resume on January 4.

Residents are asked to take real Christmas trees to the household waste and recycling centre in Millbrook. However, if this is not possible then residents can put them out for collection with their scheduled garden waste collection.

Eastleigh

Collections from December 28 will generally be one day later.

The following dates are normal collection day, followed by revised collection day:

December 25 - moves to December 28

December 28 - moves to December 29

December 29 - moves to December 30

December 30 - moves to December 31

December 31 - moves to January 2

January 1 - moves to January 4

January 4 - moves to January 5

January 5 - moves to January 6

January 6 - moves to January 7

January 8 - moves to January 9.

Households can have an additional back bag of waste alongside their black bin for the first household waste collection after Christmas.

Recycling collection points for real Christmas trees are open between January 4 and January 18. These include Mortimers Road car park, Botley; Hilliers garden centre, Botley; Lakeside country park, Eastleigh; Brambridge park garden centre, Brambridge; In-Excess Fair Oak garden centre, Fair Oak; Hound parish hall, Netley and Haskins garden centre, West End.

Residents in the garden waste collection service scheme and whose real Christmas trees are under 4ft, can put their trees out with the garden waste collection bin for recycling.

Gift wrap cannot be recycled and should be placed in household waste (black) bin.

Food waste can be put in the brown food waste bin in newspaper or compostable bags

Glass bottles can be rinsed and be placed in the black box.

Batteries can be put in a clear bag and placed on top of glass bottles in the black box.

Winchester

Usual refuse, recycling or glass collection on December 21, 22, 23, and 24 will remain the same.

There will be no collections from December 25 to 29.

Collections from December 28 will generally be one day later.

Garden waste collections will be suspended from December 25 to January 11.

The following dates are normal collection day for refuse, recycling or glass collection, followed by revised collection day:

December 25 - moves to December 29

December 28 - moves to December 30

December 29 - moves to December 31

December 30 - moves to January 2

December 31 - moves to January 4

January 1 - moves to January 5

January 4 - moves to January 6

January 5 - moves to January 7

January 6 - moves to January 8

January 11 - moves to January 12

January 12 - moves to January 13

January 13 - moves to January 14

The council are also offering to collect real Christmas trees for recycling from the week commencing January 11. Residents can put them out with garden waste collections. Decorations must be removed and the tree trimmed down if over 5ft.

Gift wrap or foil roasting trays cannot be recycled but non-glittery and non-foiled Christmas crackers can be.

Fareham

Homes expecting their rubbish to be collected on Christmas day will now have their refuse emptied on December 28.

Garden waste collections are suspended from December 11 and will resume to usual recycling collection dates from January 11.

Usual refuse or recycling bin days on December 28, 29, 30 and 31 will remain the same.

Refuse or recycling scheduled for January 1 will now be collected on January 4.

Usual recycling on January 4 will now be emptied on January 5.

Usual refuse collections on January 4 will then return to normal and usual recycling bin days on January 5 will also then return to normal.

Gift wrap cannot be put in recycling bins.

The council are also offering to collect real Christmas trees for recycling. Residents can put it out on recycling day from January 11. It must not be chopped up, one tree per property and a maximum trunk diameter of 10cm.

New Forest

For black and clear sacks normal collection day on December 25 will be taken on January 2.

Those scheduled on January 1, they will be collected on January 2.

For black box glass collections on December 25, these will now be emptied on January 2.

For glass collections on January 1, these will now be emptied on January 9.

Garden waste collections will be suspended between December 21 and January 3.

Other collection dates remain the same.

Gift wrap cannot be recycled.

Normal collections will resume on January 4.

Residents in the garden waste collection service can recycle their trees if under 6ft by cutting it up and placing it in the garden waste bag between January 4 - 18.

Drop-off points for real Christmas trees can be recycled in the district from January 2 to 17.

These can be taken to: Gang Warily community centre car park, Blackfield; Coach park, Burley; A338 slip road car park, Fordingbridge; New Road car park, Hythe; Bath Road car park, Lymington; Village centre car park, Lyndhurst; Hurst Road East overflow car park, Milford; Crossmead Avenue car park, New Milton; The Furlong long stay car park, Ringwood or Rumbridge Street car park, Totton. Any trees left in car parks not on this list, left by bins, blocking disabled parking bays, access to recycling banks and footpaths will be treated as fly-tipping.

Test Valley

For brown bin collections the following dates are normal collection day, followed by revised collection day:

December 21 - moves to December 19

December 22 - moves to December 21

December 23 - moves to December 22

December 24 - moves to December 23

December 25 - moves to December 24.

For normal black bin collections on December 28, 29, 30 and 31 they will remain the same.

For black bin collection on January 1, this will be emptied on January 2.

Garden waste collections will not take place between December 21 and January 1.

The borough council are also offering to recycle real Christmas trees from December 29 and Monday 11.

Temporary recycling sites for this are: Enham Arch retail park, Andover; Dobbies garden centre, Andover; Rosebourne, Weyhill; Angusta park community centre, Andover; Alma Road car park, Romsey; Knightwood leisure centre, Valley Park and B&Q, Nursling.

Residents who are subscribed to the garden waste collection service, can have their tree collected which should be cut in half if over 6ft.
