A SHIP which was found to be carrying 11 stowaways, including a pregnant woman, had come to Southampton from France, the Home Office has confirmed.

A Home Office spokesperson has said the vessel in question, the MV Salome, was travelling from Le Havre, France.

This comes after police were called yesterday morning to Dock Gate 4, Cunard Road after 11 Albanian nationals were discovered.

The Albanian's were detained for alleged immigration offences, with a pregnant woman taken to hospital and a 17-year-old boy transferred into the care of children's services.

The spokesperson for the Home Office said: "Border Force is working with Hampshire Police after 11 migrants, who presented themselves as Albanian nationals, were discovered by port workers at Southampton Docks.

"The individuals remain in custody and investigations are ongoing."
