The best pick your own pumpkin patches in Southampton

Picking your own pumpkin has been an autumnal tradition across the pond in America since the 1920s and during the baby boom, to greet neighbourhood children as they went trick or treating. 

With the coronavirus pandemic putting a halt to many celebrations this year, this is one tradition we can certainly all still take part in safely. 

Here are the best pumpkin patches to visit in and around Southampton:

Pickwell Farm, Bursledon

The family-run Pickwell Farm Shop and Pick Your Own was established in 1985 and can be found on the outskirts of Southampton in Bursledon.

The pick and pay fields are open from 9am until 4pm seven days a week and you can pick pumpkins all throughout the month.

Celebrating 37 years in the business, Pickwell offer a self-described no-frills pumpkin picking experience where you can don your wellies, grab a wheelbarrow and roam around their 10 acres of pumpkin fields. 

Face coverings must be worn at all times and social distancing guidelines must be adhered to. 

Orange pumpkins are £2 and white ones are £3, there is no need to book - just turn up. 

Depending on the season Pickwell also offers rhubarb, strawberries, broad beans, black/redcurrants, courgettes, raspberries, blackberries, runner beans, french beans and sweetcorn.

Is there a more pumpkin-filled place to pick your own than the location of the biggest official 2020 World Champion pumpkin?

The giant pumpkin is the second largest fruit ever to exist on the planet and is currently being displayed at Sunnyfields Farm.

The wonderful Sunnyfields Farm is lovingly run by Ian and Louise Nelson and was started 31 years ago in 1989.

Bringing you a true pumpkin extravaganza Sunnyfields has lots on offer to make your pick your own experience a fun-filled day out. 

Tickets cost £2 per person, under twos go free and pumpkins are priced at £1 for mini's and £6 for XXL's. 

To ensure public safety there are a range of covid-measures in place including pre-booking set time slots, details of additional safety measures can be found on their website along with their booking form. 

Down to Earth Farm, Green Lane

The city farm has a range of pumpkins for you to buy in their farm shop after visiting the animals (image - Down to Earth Farms).

Down to Earth Farm, also known as Southampton City Farm is open on Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's from 11am to 3pm.

There are a range of animals at the farm to see including pigs, sheep and cows. 

Although there isn't a pumpkin patch - the farm shop offers a range of quirky and odd pumpkins for you to buy.

To visit the farm you must book a time slot online, adult tickets cost £2 and children cost £1.
