THE emergency services have been called to a multi-vehicle accident that has blocked a busy Hampshire road.

The incident has occurred on the A326 just south of the Rushington roundabout, causing long tailbacks on nearby roads.

Police said one person suffered minor injuries in the three-vehicle crash.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said a woman was cut free from the wreckage and placed in the care of South Central Ambulance Service.

The travel service ROMANSE tweeted: "A326 both directions closed between Jacobs Gutter Lane and A35 Totton Bypass due to multi-vehicle RTI. Heavy delays on all approaches."

Several people living in the area have taken to social media following the accident.

One person posted: "It's bad - they are cutting people out by what I can see and hear. Hope they are OK."

Another social media user added: "The bypass is now shut towards Jacobs Gutter Lane crossroads. Police and services everywhere."

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said a car was in collision with an HGV.

She added: "Firefighters from Redbridge, St Mary’s and Eastleigh were mobilised at 8.21am to the Marchwood Bypass.

"A female was extricated by firefighters via roof removal and handed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

"The stop message came in at 9.14am."

A Hampshire police spokesman added: "We were called out at 8.22am to reports of a three-vehicle collision.

"A Volvo, a Seat and a Mercedes-Benz van were involved in a collision along the Bypass. One person received minor injuries.

"Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service are all on-scene at the moment."
