EXTRA cleaning has been carried out at two Hampshire pubs after the same customer tested positive for coronavirus.

The customer is believed to have visited the Falcon Inn at Fawley on September 4 and the The Glen in Hythe last Friday.

After being made aware of the positive result, both pubs took to social media to reassure patrons.

The Falcon Inn’s Facebook page said: “A young female who has only just tested positive for Covid-19 visited on Friday 4th Sept at around 10.20pm.

"None of the staff came into close contact with the individual and have shown no symptoms in the last eight days.

“The Falcon Inn continues to trade, following the [government’s] Covid-19 guidelines. Let’s hope this is a wake-up call and reminds us all of our responsibilities.”

The pub has undergone what staff describe as a "virus decontamination and prevention clean, using electrostatic spray technology with industry leading disinfectant that protects surfaces for up to 90 days”.

Staff at The Glen also undertook additional cleaning in all communal areas as a precaution but said the infected person spent most of her visit outside.

A statement on its Facebook page described the incident as “unfortunate but avoidable” and added: “All customers and staff who were identified, using CCTV and staff testimony, as being in close contact with the infected person have been contacted by us.

“The Glen takes its position within the community seriously and we genuinely believe we have taken appropriate measures.”
