PLANS to build a house beside an existing property have been thrown out.
New Forest District Council has rejected an application to construct a three-bedroom property next to Elmleigh in Main Road, Marchwood.
Elmleigh is near the White Horse pub, a Grade II-listed building.
A council report described the proposed development as an "awkward-shaped" house that would be crammed into a narrow plot.
The report added: "It would fail to create a high quality design that contributes positively towards the character and appearance of the street scene. It would cause harm to the setting of the nearby listed building."
The applicant could lodge an appeal or submit a revised scheme.
