TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Hampshire teacher who has died aged 76.

Lorraine Phillips, who specialised in teaching maths, science and geography, worked at Gosport for two years before spending the rest of her career at New Milton Junior School.

Friends have described her as a talented and dedicated teacher who always had the best interests of her pupils at heart.

A thanksgiving service at St Luke’s Church, Sway, was attended by around 90 friends and former colleagues and was followed by afternoon tea in the church hall.

Ms Phillips had a raft of hobbies including swimming, gardening and dancing.

She was a founder member of Sway Handbell Group and Rowan Recorder Group, both of which played at her funeral.

Ms Phillips was born above her parents’ shop in Birmingham. She went to Bromsgrove Girls’ Grammar School before undertaking her teacher training in Leeds.

After she retired Ms Phillips and another ex-teacher travelled the world.
