SHE survived against all the odds after ending up in the middle lane of a Hampshire motorway.

The tiny kitten was plucked to safety by a lorry driver who was caught up in slow-moving traffic on the M27 near Hedge End.

As the vehicle in front of him inched forward he saw the helpless creature lying in the carriageway and rushed to her rescue.

Daily Echo:

She was taken to Seadown Veterinary Services in Frost Lane, Hythe, and christened Zoom Zoom - a reference to the speed at which traffic normally travels along the M27.

The kitten was adopted by one of the vets, Laura Trigg, and is now very much part of the family.

Laura, a Seadown director, told the Daily Echo: "Zoom Zoom is an absolute character who has definitely made her presence felt.

"After being raised in a busy vets' practice she is absolutely unfazed about two busy children and actively seeks out noise and activity.

"She also loves curling up in front of our fire with our dog Hattie, who has grudgingly accepted that she's here to stay! We all absolutely adore her."

Zoom Zoom is thought to have been just two or three weeks old when she was rescued from the M27 last summer.

Daily Echo:

As reported, she was spotted by lorry driver Richard Tubbs, 44, who scooped her up in his arms and took her back to his depot at Marchwood.

Speaking at the time Richard said: “The traffic was stop-start as I neared the Hedge End turn off.

“When the car in front of me moved forward I noticed a little black thing on the tarmac. I thought I saw it move so I stopped, put my hazard warning lights on and climbed down to see what it was.

“It was the smallest kitten you’ve ever seen - just lying there in the centre of the M27.

“I wrapped her in my work fleece to keep her warm because her legs and body were wet from lying on the motorway surface.

“As I drove back to the yard I stroked her little head with my finger and talked to her to try to reassure her that everything would be all right."

No-one knows how Zoom Zoom came to be in the middle of the M27 - or how she survived.
