MOTORISTS are being warned of major sets of roadworks which are taking place across Hampshire and the south of England this week.

The road improvements will take place from November 25 until December 1 and will affect Southampton and main routes across the county.

Highways England have said they aim to carry out the works with the aim of "causing as little disruption as possible".

These are the roadworks that are set to go ahead:

M27 junctions 3 to 4 Southampton, Hampshire: bridge reconstruction

Work to maintain journeys and ensure road user safety by replacing the Romsey Road bridge near junction 3 continues this week.

A 50mph speed restriction is in place on the M27 in both directions beneath the bridge.

M27 junctions 4 Southampton to 11 Fareham, Hampshire: smart motorway

Work to improve journeys by converting the M27 into a smart motorway continues this week.

A 50mph speed restriction and 24-hour narrow lanes will be in place until 2021.

A31 Minstead, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by repairing a section of the A31 westbound near Minstead finishes this week. The A31 westbound will be closed from junction 2 of the M27 to Stoney Cross overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Tuesday, November 26. A signed diversion will be in place from junction 2 of the M27 to Salisbury via A36, and then south on A338 to re-join A31 at Ringwood Interchange.

A34 Sutton Scotney, Hampshire: drainage surveys

Work to carry out surveys of the drainage system at the Sutton Scotney service area takes place this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday, November 25.

A34 Whitchurch, Hampshire: bridge repairs

Work to replace a joint in the bridge which carries the A34 over the River Test continues this week. The A34 southbound from the B4640 Tot Hill junction to the A303 Bullington Cross junction will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday, November 25 for four nights. A signed diversion will be in place via the A339 towards Basingstoke then the A303.

M3 junctions 11 to 10 Winchester, Hampshire: bridge joint

Work to maintain journeys by undertaking maintenance to the bridge which carries the M3 over the railway line continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on the M3 in both directions from 9pm on Friday, November 29 through to 6am on Monday, December 2.

In addition, the M3 northbound between junctions 12 and 9, and the M3 southbound between junctions 9 and 11 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place.

M3 junction 6 Basingstoke, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintaining the drainage system at junction 6 continues this week. The southbound exit and entry slip roads and the southern side of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from until Thursday, November 28. Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions.

A27 Bedhampton, Hampshire: traffic lights

Work to maintain traffic flows by maintaining the traffic lights at the Bedhampton/Harts Farm Way junction continues this week. The A27 eastbound entry slip road, the A27 westbound exit slip road and the link from the A3(M) junction 5 roundabout to the A27 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Tuesday, December 3 (Monday to Friday only). Signed diversions will be in place via the adjacent junctions and Havant.

A31 St Leonards, Dorset: street lighting

Work to improve journeys by updating the street lighting at the Woolsbridge roundabout continues this week. The A31 eastbound from the Boundary Lane roundabout to the A338 Ashley Heath roundabout, with a lane two closure on the A31 westbound, will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Monday, December 2 (Monday to Friday only).

A signed diversion will be in place via the A347, the B3073 and the A338 to re-join the A31 at the Ashley Heath roundabout. Traffic wanting to join the A31 at Woolsbridge Roundabout will be diverted north on Woolsbridge Road, then east on Horton Road to Ashley Heath Roundabout.

A3 Guildford, Surrey: slip road widening

Work to improve safety by widening the southbound slip road at the University Interchange continues this week. Narrow lanes are in place on the A3 northbound and University exit slip road 24 hours a day until March.

A34 Oxfordshire: junction improvements

Work to refresh the road markings and install LED road studs at the West Ilsley junction, Chilton junction, Milton Interchange, Hinksey Hill junction and the Botley Interchange, continues this week. The A34 northbound from the M4 Chieveley junction to the A4130 Milton Interchange will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday, November 28. A signed diversion will be in place via the A4, A338, A417 and A4130.

A34 Oxford, Oxfordshire: drainage

Work to ensure safety by maintaining the drainage system at the A420 Botley Interchange continues this week. The A34 southbound entry slip road at the Botley Interchange and lane one of the A34 southbound will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Thursday, December (Monday to Friday only). A signed diversion will be in place via the Peartree Interchange and return.
