A MAN who stole from two Southampton city centre bars has been jailed.

Henok Jonny Beyene, 34, entered the Scholars Arms in Above Bar Street on September 9.

He stole two bottles of spirits worth £190 - the value of the bottles to the bar.

On the same day, Beyene entered the Grumpy Monkey, also on Above Bar Street, and stole two bottles of beer worth £10.

When caught, he was in possession of diamorphine.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, Beyene pleaded guilty to two counts of theft, one count of possession of a Class A drug and breaching a community order.

He was jailed for eight months, because magistrates said the offence was "planned, deliberate and committed by a proven thief".

Beyene, of HMP Bullingdon, was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.
