A STEER had to be put down after one of four animal accidents which occurred on the same New Forest road.
The steer was injured in a hit-and-run collision on the B3078 at Black Gutter and was humanely destroyed by one of the agisters employed by the New Forest Verderers.
New figures from the Verderers show that three other animal accidents occurred on the B3078 in the week starting July 29.
One of them also took place at Black Gutter and involved a cow which also had to be put down.
The following day a female donkey was injured in a collision outside the Fighting Cocks pub at Godshill.
The fourth accident also occurred at Godshill and involved a donkey foal. A search was carried out but the animal could not be found.
As reported in the Daily Echo, the B3078 is one of the worst roads in the Forest for animal accidents.
