A WOMAN has died following a crash involving a car and a lorry in the New Forest.

The driver of the Skoda, a 61-year-old woman from Sway, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the lorry, a 53-year-old man from Gloucestershire, was uninjured.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Rebecca Hodge, from the Joint Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are particularly keen to speak to the drivers of two vehicles who were directly behind the collision.

“We understand that they turned around and drove off before we arrived, so we would like to speak to these people as they may have information that could help with our investigation.”

Officers were called shortly after 5pm last night to reports of a collision involving a Skoda Fabia and a lorry on the A337.

It happened near the entrances to Hollands Wood campsite and New Park, Brockenhurst - home of the annual New Forest Show.

Northbound traffic was diverted along Balmer Lawn Road - part of the Brockenhurst to Beaulieu route.

The A337 was closed in both directions while police investigated the crash.

One of the roadblocks was at the junction of the A337 and Balmer Lawn Road, near the Balmer Lawn Hotel.

The crash happened on a long, straight stretch of road which has been the scene of several serious accidents in recent years.
