PART of the M27 that was closed after a lorry crash has reopened.

The motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 was closed shortly after 8.30am yesterday after a crash involving a lorry caused fuel to spill across the carriageway.

Traffic was brought to a standstill and motorists were left queueing for hours while drivers were urged to avoid the area and use a diversion.

Highways England closed the motorway for the rest of the day and all night to allow resurfacing works to be carried out.

The road reopened in the early hours of this morning.

Hampshire police said the collision involved a lorry but no-one was injured and no arrests were made.
