A WINTERBOURNE resident has slammed the “disgusting” litter left on the A338 heading out of Salisbury.

Jeremy Ring said the litter is “disgusting”, and that “it drives me mad”.

The road, off the roundabout at the end of London Road, is littered with clothes, shoes, and general rubbish.

Mr Ring added: “I think it’s a one person vendetta, and its completely mad.

“It used to be further up by the bridge [Broken Cross Bridge Road], and a man and son used to clear it, but now its moved down the road.

“I also went down early one Sunday morning to clear up things I thought were dangerous on the road, but I had to leave before the traffic got worse.

“I’ve made two complaints to Wiltshire Council, but nothing seems to be being done about it.”

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said the council were aware of the litter, and were working to arrange a collection.

A statement from the council said: "Litter is damaging to the environment and will cost council tax payers in Wiltshire over £2.5m this year alone.

"We could use this money to support key services if waste was disposed of properly.

“We are aware of litter on this stretch of road and we are working with our contractor to arrange a collection at the earliest opportunity.

“The nature of this road means traffic management is necessary which can delay collection and increase the cost.

“If anyone has dash cam footage of littering from vehicles, please send it to us so we can investigate.

“The next scheduled additional collection of litter on highways across the county starts in March and takes place over three months."

“Members of the public can also report highways issues using the MyWiltsApp and receive live updates on their report.”
