TWO POWER cuts affected over 4,000 Hampshire properties Tuesday night.

Homes in Hedge End Bursledon and the surrounding areas of Netley Common were left without power from around 10.55 Tuesday evening.

An underground cable fault in the area caused 2,348 properties in these areas to suffer from power cuts.

Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) engineers restored power to their customers in stages.

All customers had their power supplies reconnected by 2.05am on Wednesday.

SSE engineers were also made aware of a second fault at 3.19am, which affected 1,996 properties in Woolston, Netley and surrounding areas.

This power cut was caused by a fault on the underground cable network.

SSE teams restored power to their customers in stages, with the majority restored within an hour-and-a-half.

Two properties remained without power following the incident.

The power was expected to be restored to these remaining properties via generator by 12noon yesterday.

A spokesperson from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said: "We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience as our engineers worked to safely carry out repairs as quickly as possible."

This comes just over a week after 15,200 properties in West End and Netley Common were left without power after two faults on the network.

Residents in the West End area were affected by damage at a substation which caused a high voltage network fault on January 13.

Homes in Netley Common were also left in the dark after a separate fault left them without power.
