HAMPSHIRE volunteers have called on the community to help fund an RNIB Talking Book.

Seven Eastleigh volunteers, who fundraise for the Royal National Institute of Blind People, are looking to raise money to add a title to the charity’s talking books library.

The RNIB Eastleigh Fundraising Group has been raising money for the charity for the past six years, and already have RNIB Talking Books of “Home Comforts” by James Martin, and “Cold Kill” by P.J. Tracy.

They are now calling on residents, community groups and businesses in the area, to join them and raise £2,500 to fund the production of an adult Talking Book.

Wendy Budden, of the RNIB Eastleigh fundraising group, said: “We really would love to bring the community of Eastleigh together to raise money for an RNIB Talking Book. We are not asking for the whole amount – people can contribute whatever they can to help us reach the target and support this vital service that benefits blind and partially sighted people. It’s something that the community can be proud of.”

Hayley Brooks, area fundraising manager at RNIB, said: “We know that our Talking Books help open up a whole new world for blind and partially sighted people, but we urgently need support to expand our library so that people living with sight loss will have access to even more books. We hope that local businesses and Eastleigh residents will get involved and sponsor a Talking Book to help us change the story.”
