A SOUTHAMPTON woman has died after a crash on the A31.

The 57-year-old was rushed to hospital after her vehicle came off the carriageway and crashed into a ditch beside the road.

Police say the woman died in hospital hours later.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place on the westbound A31 between Stoney Cross and Burley yesterday (Friday, January 11).

The incident happened around 6.15pm and involved a maroon-coloured Citroen Xsara Picasso.

PC Andy Christopher from Totton Roads Policing Unit said: “We know that the collision happened at a busy time of day on the A31.

"The car was travelling westbound and had just passed Stoney Cross.

“If you were in the area around that time and saw the collision, or if you think you saw the car prior to the incident, we’d like to hear from you.”
