UP TO 400 homes in Marchwood have been hit by a water outage today (Boxing Day).

Southern Water say emergency works to a leaking pipe has caused the outage.

It is expected to last until around 1.30pm today.

Traffic management will also be installed at the junction of Twiggs Lane and Hythe Road to keep crew safe while the carry out the work.

A statement on Southern Water's Facebook page said: "We're sorry but due to essential work to repair a leaking pipe, around 400 properties in the Marchwood area of Southampton will lose water for about three hours.

"Traffic management will also be installed at the junction of Twiggs Lane and Hythe Road to keep our crew safe whilst they work.

"We know it's always inconvenient to be without water but we'll work as fast as we can to repair the leak which, if not fixed now, risks houses in the area being flooded.

"Thank you for your patience whilst we work on this emergency repair and to restore your supplies as quickly as possible."
