WILTSHIRE Creative’s production of Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious West End hit comedy Relatively Speaking runs at Salisbury Playhouse from Wednesday September 4 until September 28.

And it marks a welcome return to the venue by Caroline Harker (The Chalk Garden, Chichester Festival Theatre; Middlemarch, BBC) following her acclaimed performance as the younger Queen in Handbagged at Salisbury Playhouse earlier this year. Caroline plays Sheila in Relatively Speaking.

Starring alongside Caroline is Tim McMullan (Antony & Cleopatra and Twelfth Night - both National Theatre; The Crown Series 3, Netflix) as Sheila’s husband Philip. The cast is completed by Louise Calf (Downton Abbey, ITV; The Railway Children, Kings Cross Theatre) as Ginny; and Hubert Burton (The Last Post, BBC; The Inheritance, West End) as Greg.

Relatively Speaking will be staged in-the-round in a specially transformed auditorium at Salisbury Playhouse with seating on all sides of the stage.

Relatively Speaking features Greg and Ginny who are living together. Ginny is keen to marry Greg but, with unfamiliar slippers under the bed and a delivery of flowers and chocolates, Greg is becoming suspicious that he is not the only man in her life. When Ginny says she is visiting her parents in the country, a dizzying series of misunderstandings unravels into chaotic comedy.

Relatively Speaking was Ayckbourn’s first big West End hit when it was originally staged at the Duke of York’s Theatre, London, in 1967 with Richard Briers, Jennifer Hilary, Michael Hordern and Celia Johnson.

Wiltshire Creative Associate Director Jo Newman (Betrayal, Hansel and Handbagged all at Salisbury Playhouse) directs Relatively Speaking. Set and costume designs are by James Button (Love on the Links, Worst Wedding Ever and Beauty and the Beast all at Salisbury Playhouse).

Relatively Speaking is generously supported by Jim Douglas.
