BIG hair and leg warmers at the ready - Let's Rock Southampton is back with a vengeance.

Expect neon as far as the eye can see as the celebration of everything retro returns to Southampton Common tomorrow.

Thousands of revellers will descend on the city to enjoy a day of music from the decade fashion forgot and outfits to match.

International 70s and 80s hit maker Billy Ocean will headline the 2019 event, which will see festival fans clad in fancy dress depicting everything from a Rubik's Cube to Super Gran and from Baywatch lifeguards to Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards.

The renowned R&B singer will take to the stage to close the festival, following sets by other big names including American soul singers Shalamar, Heaven Is A Place on Earth singer Belinda Carlisle and singer-songwriter Nik Kershaw with his own hits like I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me and songs he's written for others, including the Chesney Hawkes smash hit The One and Only.

Speaking to the Daily Echo from his latest tour in Germany, Nik said he was looking forward to

"They are just so much fun they truly are," he laughed.

"They are exactly what it says on the tin. Everybody knows what they are getting. You all go out onto the stage to tens of thousands of people and just play those songs again. It is just so much fun and you are hanging out with all of your mates as well.

"I guess that the worry from an artist’s point of view was that most of us are still making records and doing stuff and the more attention that is paid to the old stuff, the less attention is paid to the new stuff. But you know what, it doesn’t really matter. I make my records for myself now, and the hard-core fans who know what is going on and where to find those records when they come out. So to me it’s not a big deal, I have the best of both worlds really."

Andy Bell, best known as the lead singer and co-songwriter of synth pop duo Erasure, is also on the bill. Expect hits like Sometimes, Oh L’Amour, Chains of Love, Always and A Little Respect among others.

Toyah will get the music under way at around 12 midday.

The line up also includes Marc Almond, performing solo tracks and those from his stint with new wave duo Soft Cell and From The Jam, keeping the spirit of The Jam alive.
