THE Winchester-based Friends of King Alfred Buses (FoKAB) has confirmed details of the events it hopes to operate in 2021.

2020 has proved something of a disappointment as due to the coronavirus lockdown it was not possible to stage the main Running Day in May whilst many other events where vehicles from the King Alfred collection would normally be seen were also cancelled. However, the important work of keeping the King Alfred vehicles in running condition has continued in readiness for better times.

The aim for 2021 is to follow broadly the pattern of recent years with a fairly small free vintage bus service event on January 1 and a larger one including visiting vehicles on Bank Holiday Monday May 3.

This will maintain well-established traditions and provide an opportunity once again for the many supporters who would like to travel on these historic buses for a day. As usual, the bus services will be centred on the Broadway in Winchester with the first departures at around 9am and the last a little before 5pm.

Details are now being worked out which will take into account appropriate ‘Covid Secure’ guidance.

FoKAB chairman James Freeman said: "It’s been a difficult year for all of us and we can only hope for better when we move into 2021. In FoKAB we thank all our friends and supporters for their encouragement and donations during 2020 and look forward to seeing them again in the coming year."
