The looming form of the Itchen Bridge in Southampton takes shape in this stunning aerial photograph during its construction.

Soaring 28 metres and with a span of 800 metres, the finished bridge cost £12.2m to build.

The road carries more than seven million vehicles a year.

It was obviously a big year for Saints as this queue for tickets shows.

It was 45 years ago when Southampton FC began their memorable journey to glory in the 1976 FA Cup.

It began against Aston Villa and of course, ended with a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Wembley.

East Street centre failed to capture the hearts of Southampton people and failed to attract businesses.

It was once part of a bold vision to revolutionise the city centre and changed the face of East Street – one of the city's oldest roads.

Using a modern design and plenty of concrete, it was Southampton’s first shopping centre.
