IT is without doubt one of Southampton’s greatest assets, a total of 326 acres of open space that has been enjoyed by local people for decades.
Southampton Common, with its woodland, grassy areas, paddling pool, fishing lake and meandering paths, is not only a favourite spot for Sotonians but the parkland also supports a large variety of wildlife.
Designated a site of special scientific interest, Southampton Common has been highlighted by the government as one of the country’s premier natural sites.
These photographs, taken through the years, are from the Daily Echo archives and show visitors enjoying the paddling pool.
