THEY were out to prove that the male-dominated sport no longer needed to be.
With the backing of Southampton City Council, Sue Harris and Jan Scott set up one of the first all-girl coaching clinics in the country.
The pair were astounded when on March 24, 1990, 200 soccer-mad girls from across the county, including the New Forest, turned up at Southampton Sports Centre’s for the first session.
Sue and Jan had both played at the highest level of women’s soccer.
