The Daily Echo takes another glimpse back through the ages with the aid of pictures – this time to October 1999.
Included in the images are former Saints stars. Claus Lundekvam launched balloons from the Civic Centre on behalf of a deaf charity while Francis Benali and Dani Rodrigues opened a new convenience store in Foundry Lane.
While the events in these pictures were taking place locally, this is what was unfolding nationally:
October 10
The skyline of South Bank changed as the London Eye was lifted into place. The 135-metre observation wheel is the most popular paid for tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with 3.75 million customers annually.
October 16
The most English league football dismissals to occur on the same day took place when 26 players were sent off.
October 19
Tracey Emim exhibited My Bed at the Tate Gallery as one of the shortlisted works for the Turner Prize. The prize was given to Steve McQueen for his video based on a Buster Keaton film.
