JOIN us on another trip down memory lane as we look at the pictures taken by Daily Echo photographers in October 1979.
The champagne was flowing as Tony Blackburn, Julie Drew Cole and Harry Worth smiled for the camera. The trio were promoting their pantomime appearance at King's Theatre .
Majorettes made the newspaper three times that month. A group posed for photographs on the steps of Southampton Guildhall while the Southern Counties Open Championships took place, the Shirlettes had their picture taken after they became finalists in a major competition, and the Jetsetters were snapped during a rehearsal.
These pictures were taken at the same time this was happening nationally:
October 27
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gained independence. They had been under European control for more than 200 years.
October 28
Chairman Hua Guofeng became the first Chinese leader to visit Britain. He and Margaret Thatcher had friendly talks and discussed the future of Hong Kong.
