Liverpool lifted the FA Cup after a 3-2 victory over their Merseyside rivals Everton. It was the second all–Merseyside cup final in four seasons.

Sonia Sutcliffe, wife of Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe, was awarded £600,000 in damages by the High Court against satirical magazine Private Eye.
