AS THE ABP Southampton Marathon races into view with ferocious rapidity, the Daily Echo looks back at the event on May 3, 1987.
It was a half-marathon at that time, when milkman Graham Tuck delivered a gold top performance to finish victorious.
The women’s race was won by Alison Gooderham who had a fierce struggle early on before pulling away from the pack.
Jimmy Ball racewalked the course in 1 hour 46 minutes and finished ahead of many of the 1,700 running entrants
Nick Ashley and Richard Hackett added to the slog by pushing 13-stone Heather Thayne in a pram to race money for Southampton General Hospital.
