Southampton based runners scooped medals galore at the Hampshire Cross Country Championship on December 12, 1992.

Southampton City AC’s James Starling claimed the men’s title and Lordshill Road Runner’s Sue Dilnot the women’s in a waterlogged Hampshire showdown at Leigh Park, Havant.

Starling firmly stamped his authority on the Hampshire senior men’s race, clocking 37 minutes 9 seconds for the seven-and-a-half mile course, ahead of Eddie Hurley and John Kendall.

With Rod Finch 4th, Mark Gregory 7th, Eddie Tee 9th, Ian Harpur 10th and Richard Large 12th, SCAC easily scooped the team title.

Sue Dilnot maintained her superb run of form to lead the senior women home 31 seconds clear of Angela Davies, Jillian Jones, Clare Roberts and Gill Archard.

SCAC had more to celebrate from the intermediate women - Rachel Saywell beating Vicky Brooks to the individual crown, and with Karen Surtees and Shelleen Snart taking second team prize.
