FORMER Winchester City boss Ian Saunders has parted company with AFC Portchester.

Saunders had shared the managerial reins with Mick Catlin, who will continue in charge of the Sydenhams Premier Division club.

A Royals statement said: “AFC Portchester announce the departure of first-team manager Ian Saunders by mutual consent.

“Mick Catlin will continue to lead the team with the full support of the committee.”

Army man Saunders, who lost his job at Winchester in March last year after nearly eight months in charge, tweeted: “It is with huge disappointment that I have parted company with a great football club.

“I haven’t had a break from football for as long as I can remember, so let’s see how it goes.”

Under Saunders and Catlin, Portchester lifted the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup last season.

Saunders' departure reportedly comes less than a week after an alleged dressing room disagreement with members of the squad.
