BLACKFIELD & Langley celebrated their September club-of-the-month award with yet another victory in the Evo-Stik Division One South.

The Watersiders edged past Melksham Town 3-2 at Gang Warily, becoming the first side to beat the Wiltshire outfit in the league this season.

“Melksham didn’t come to defend, they came to try and win and it made for a really good, entertaining game,” said Blackfield’s assistant co-manager Chris Farrell.

“They were on the front foot from the off and were the better side for the first 20 minutes.”

That early Melksham pressure resulted in a 14th-minute opener when ex-Totton winger Jono Davies netted a deflected free kick.

Rudy Plummer hit back after Sami Makhloufi’s shot had been parried and Blackfield keeper Lewis Noice then rescued his side with a penalty save from Davies.

After that, it became the Makhloufi show as the ex-Bournemouth Poppies attacker beat four men before belting the ball into the top corner.

He then wriggled his way through the Melksham defence again, this time laying the ball off for newly-signed Poole Town loanee Olly Balmer to finish.

Blackfield’s Liam Robinson was denied by an outstanding save before Davies found the net again for Melksham with five minutes remaining.

The win keeps the Watersiders second on goal difference from leaders Yate Town ahead of Tuesday's home game against Moneyfields who won 4-0 at Mangotsfield.

“The league table shows Moneyfields in the bottom six, but they’ll be top six by the end of the season,” wagered Farrell.
