FAWLEY AFC’s Sydenhams One opener against Totton & Eling has been moved back a week from tomorrow to next Tuesday (August 8, 7.45pm).

The Oilers' LB Roofing Arena home has successfully undergone much maintenance work during the summer, but the floodlights have taken longer than expected to service.

“Needless to say, some people have put a ridiculous amount of their own time and money into trying to make this happen but, unfortunately, we were beaten by the clock,” said a Fawley statement.

“The Wessex League have kindly given us a week’s grace to make the necessary improvements.”

Fawley will now kick off their season away to Farnham Town in the FA Cup extra preliminary round on Saturday, while Totton & Eling travel to Weymouth Reserves in the league.

Meanwhile, Salisbury have added an extra friendly to their pre-season programme.

The Whites will go to Evo-Stik South Premier outfit Gosport tomorrow evening (Wednesday, 7.45pm) having had their scheduled home match against Borough rained off last month.

Salisbury boss Steve Claridge, whose side open their Evo-Stik South West campaign at Mangotsfield United on Saturday week, said: “I organised pre-season to have a set number of games.

“When we lost the home game against Gosport, it left us one short and, after Saturday’s game (a 3-1 defeat to Weston-super-Mare), we looked as if we needed one more, both for fitness and to work on our shape.

“I’m grateful to Gosport for agreeing to host us at short notice.”

Alex Pike’s Borough have also arranged an extra friendly away at Hayes & Yeading Utd on Friday (August 4, 8pm).
